Despite the chilly rain, approximately 100 guests made their way to Vio Cafe, 2000 W 18th St, 2nd Floor, Chicago, IL 60608 on Saturday April 25, 2015 from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM to help Meechy Monroe celebrate her 30th birthday! The event was organized by The Monroe Sisters.
Welcome to the party! Naturalistas and others around the country have been concerned about Meechy’s welfare. So, join me for the festivities and see for yourself…
Meechy greeted arrivals graciously and shared with this guest that she is "slowly getting back into the natural hair world! Youtube videos will come with time as I progress with my recovery. So it's a process, but I'm feeling much better."
As guests made their way to the seating area, a table with information about Shea Moisture products and a large gift basket to be given away later was set up near the entry door.
Meechy's sister (known as MsVaugntv on social media) encouraged everyone to post on social media using the hashtag #turnupformeechy.
There was a variety of food available for brunch, including chicken and waffles, french fries, fresh vegetables and hummus dip, fresh fruit, water with fresh lemon slices, and champagne mimosas.
A catered dessert table with cookies, candies, and chocolate covered fresh strawberries was set up for guests to help themselves, with Meechy's birthday cake as the centerpiece.
The dessert table contained sweet treats to satisfy any sweet tooth!
Meechy mingled with her guests as they enjoyed brunch.
As the afternoon went on, approximately 100 guests were in attendance, enjoying the music and food.
As the end of the event neared, MsVaughntv directed everyone's attention to the dessert table to announce that, in addition to celebrating Meechy's 30th birthday, she was also celebrating one year cancer free and being in remission!
Everyone cheered and sang Happy Birthday to Meechy.
Afterward, Meechy sliced her cake while Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday to You" played. MsVaughnTV raffled off the gift basket and encouraged everyone to grab a Shea Moisture gift bag containing several full-sized products as we left.
A wonderful celebration for a natural hair icon, and very encouraging to see her doing so well!
